The African National Congress’ (ANC) Mxolisi Kaunda has been re-elected as the Mayor of the eThekwini Metro.
Kaunda was up against the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Nicole Graham.
Kaunda won with 113 votes compared to 104 for Graham.
Kaunda and Graham with the only two nominations in a secret ballot overseen by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
This was the second attempt at electing the eThekwini municipal leadership, just two days after proceedings were disrupted by a group of ANC supporters including a power cut which also brought the sitting to a halt during the chaos on Monday.
The start of the Wednesday’s session was similar to Monday’s with numerous points of orders and interjections.
