Over Seventy People Evacuated from Flood Ravaged Ladysmith

Over seventy people have ben evacuated from the Ladysmith CBD to an indoor complex following floods in the town.

Persistent downpours over the past two weeks have caused the Klip River to burst its banks and flood the CBD and residential areas.

Hundreds of homes and businesses have been flooded in Ladysmith following heavy rains.

NGO Al-Imdaad Foundation teams are continuing their response to the flood situation assisting with evacuations and supplying food aid, hygiene kits, mattresses and blankets to displaced families.

Spokesperson Abed Karim said the CBD is flooded.

“Water is still high and the river hasn’t gone down and it looks about two, three days before mop up operations can begin.”

Karim said anyone willing to assist should contact the organisation.
